He’s a bit more somber and introspective, while retaining the roguish quality that made Selleck so appealing. That charm and chemistry is a big part of what makes the show work, and Hernandez does a good job of filling the shoes of Tom Selleck without coming off as a carbon copy. Poor Lombardozzi ends up as an expendable plot device, but even before Nuzo exits the story, he fits in well with the group’s camaraderie. The Wire’s Domenick Lombardozzi plays the fourth member of Magnum’s former team, Sebastian Nuzo, who’s caught up in some bad business related to disgraced ex-Marines smuggling gold out of Iraq. The first episode, which is the only one CBS made available for review, even takes direct inspiration from one of the most famous episodes of the original series, the two-part Season 3 premiere “Did You See the Sunrise?” (the new version is titled “I Saw the Sun Rise”). Lenkov has flipped that character’s gender, so that she’s now Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks), a former MI-6 agent who has clear sexual tension with Magnum from their first scene together. Hernandez's Magnum also retains a love-hate relationship with the other person living on the estate, Masters’ majordomo, a somewhat-uptight Brit. As in the original series, Magnum is the head of security for the unseen Masters, living in a guest house at the author's compound in exchange for unspecified services. Of course, realism isn’t exactly what anyone’s looking for in a show about a private investigator who lives on a sprawling estate in Hawaii and spends as much time on the beach as he does solving crimes. As much as Magnum and his right-hand men Theodore “T.C.” Calvin (Stephen Hill) and Orville “Rick” Wright (Zachary Knighton) mock their supposedly exaggerated portrayal in Masters’ novels, their actual adventures as depicted on the show aren’t much more grounded. Reboot Trailer Asks, "Why Am I Here?"Ĭut to: Magnum and his ex-military buddies making fun of the absurdity of the action, which actually comes from a bestselling novel by author Robin Masters, a former journalist embedded with Magnum and his unit in Iraq. Once he lands, he has to shoot his way past North Korean soldiers to smuggle a defector out of the country, aided by his trusty support team. The episode opens to the strains of AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” as Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) prepares to make a parachute jump from the stratosphere into North Korea. (this version drops the comma from the title) has plenty of bombastic, over-the-top action, some entertaining banter and a lively pace that makes it easy not to stop and think about how ridiculous it all is. He knows how to deliver a slick, easy-to-watch take on an action-adventure classic, with just enough modern updates for a traditional audience.ĭirected by filmmaker Justin Lin ( The Fast and the Furious, Star Trek Beyond), the pilot for Magnum P.I. He appeared in a number of TV series, including "Valerie," ''The Love Boat" and "The Betty White Show," and in films including "The Last Picture Show" and "High Plains Drifter.Obviously there’s no need to remake the iconic 1980s crime drama Magnum, P.I., but because it’s impossible to avoid franchise revivals in 2018, CBS was smart to hand the reins to the new series to producer Peter M. When Hillerman decided to retire about 17 years ago, the actor born in Denison, Texas, returned to his native state and was content leaving Hollywood behind, said his nephew. Hillerman, who had been in declining health, died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Houston, nephew Chris Tritico said.īesides playing manager of the Hawaiian estate that Magnum used as home base, Hillerman was known for his 1970s roles as arrogant radio show detective Simon Brimmer on the "Ellery Queen" series and the difficult boss on the sitcom "One Day at a Time." Camping and fires are prohibited within the Gulf Hagas area, though there are nearby sites that can be reserved with North Maine Woods for a fee. The day use fee (as of 2021) is $11 for Maine Residents, $16 for non-Maine Residents with children under 18 or adults over 70 free (more info on their website). Other Informationįees - To access the Gulf Hagas area via vehicle, one must pass through private land which has an associated fee collected by North Maine Woods, Inc. Detailed maps of Gulf Hagas are available for purchase at the KI-Jo Mary Forest Checkpoint, or on the North Maine Woods website. Some people opt to bring sandals for the river crossing so as to keep their hiking shoes dry, but note that this makes it easier to slip on the rocky river-bed. Additionally, the trail is in a remote location with very unreliable cell-service, so a physical map and compass and knowledge of how to use them are strongly recommended. A walking stick for balance can be helpful for the river crossing. The Gulf Hagas trails have rough footing, so some experience hiking and good sturdy footwear are needed. This trail connects from the Rim Trail and Pleasant River Tote Road to the AT 0.7 miles north of the Rim Trail - AT intersection. Hikers can create a longer loop by using the blue-blazed Gulf Hagas Cut-off trail. A complete loop of the Rim Trail and the Pleasant River Tote Road is an 8-mile hike when accessed via the AT from the Gulf Hagas Parking Area, or 8.6 miles when accessed via the Head of the Gulf Trail from the Head of the Gulf Parking Area. Running parallel to the Rim Trail is the blue-blazed Pleasant River Tote Road, which can be accessed at several points, and is often used on the way back, as it is easier and faster than the Rim Trail. There are many side trails to viewpoints and waterfalls. Otherwise, many people continue along the length of the Rim Trail to view the entirety of the Gulf. There is a short side trail to Screw Auger Falls 0.2 miles past the beginning of the Rim Trail, which is a good destination for a 3.5-mile round trip hike. This is usually a rock-hop, but could be a ford at high water. The Rim Trail crosses Gulf Hagas Brook just after the intersection. The Rim Trail provides numerous lookout points to multiple waterfalls as it traverses beside the gorge. After the crossing, the AT goes through the Hermitage, a stand of old-growth white pine trees.ġ.3 miles from the river, the blue-blazed Rim Trail branches to the left off of the AT. In high water (such as during the spring, or after a large amount of rainfall), consider using the Head of the Gulf Parking Area instead to access Gulf Hagas, as that trailhead provides a bridge across the river. This river must be forded as there is no bridge, and it is often knee-deep and 100-feet wide. The AT, which has white blazes, crosses the West Branch of the Pleasant River shortly after the intersection. Despite its remote location, the Gulf Hagas trails are a popular hiking destination due to the sheer beauty of the area.įrom the Gulf Hagas Parking Area, travel 0.2 miles on the blue-blazed trail to the Appalachian Trail (AT) junction. The West Branch of the Pleasant River descends 400 feet through Gulf Hagas over the course of 4 miles in a series of waterfalls. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, please choose another trail. Use Maine Trail Finder to identify other nearby trails. Consider visiting outside of peak periods. Additional information about hiking to waterfalls can be found in various publications available at bookstores in the park. This is a busy trail system, especially on weekends between 9AM-4PM. Please pick up a copy of the park's official trail map from any visitor center before hitting the trail to these waterfalls. The following are brief descriptions of the Smokies most popular waterfalls. Watch the brief video, Waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, for a overview of some of the park's favorite waterfalls. This abundant rainfall trickles and rushes down the mountain sides, from high elevation to low, sometimes dropping more than a mile in elevation from the high peaks to the foothills at the park's boundary. Le Conte and Clingmans Dome receive over eight feet of rain. In the Smokies high country, over 85" of rain falls on average each year. The Great Smoky Mountains abound with the two ingredients essential for waterfalls-ample rainfall and an elevation gradient. Large waterfalls attract the crowds, but smaller cascades and falls can be found on nearly every river and stream in the park. Mouse Creek Falls is located on Big Creek Trail.Įvery year over 200,000 visitors hike well-worn trails to view Grotto, Laurel, Abrams, Rainbow, and other popular waterfalls in the park. It got named spin back when people were working with the Bohr model and trying to extend it to atoms beyond hydrogen. Spin is just a property that electrons (and other particles) have. For another layer, you can take the fact that you can never cool anything down to exactly 0K (-273.15C) (although you can get close) and so nothing will ever have 0 velocity. (1 value in a range of reals is like trying to throw a dart at a dartboard with an infinitely thin wire and hitting the wire). With this uncertainty, the velocity is almost definitely not 0. As we can't physically measure to perfect accuracy, there is an uncertainty in both measurements of the degree that we know it's probably stationary and it's probably 'over there'. So, if you know with 0 uncertainty what the velocity is, then you have no idea where it is, and all future involvement of the particle is pretty much irrelevant (how is the electron going to diffract around an atom if the electron is in a different galaxy?). The square (probability function) shows that it has an equal chance of being anywhere. If you take the infinite wavelength interpretation, then it would be nearly 0 (1/inf) but constant everywhere. Isn't to do with the fact that the velocity is not quite 0? if you know it is exactly 0 then the uncertainty in the position is infinite as well (momentum is a function of velocity, so delta P = 0 -> delta V = 0 -> delta X = inf) therefore it has an equal probability of being anywhere. For a stronger patina on brass, you can also apply vinegar or mustard to the surface of the brass and let it sit. Simply following the manufacturer’s instructions and applying the patina solution with a brush or sponge can create a beautiful patina in a short amount of time. There are products available specifically for patinating brass, such as Metalux patina, that are formulated to work quickly and safely on brass and other metals. The quickest way to create a patina on brass is to use a specialized patina solution. Additionally, you can purchase a commercial patina solution made specifically for brass if you would like to speed up the process or achieve a more authentic look. This process is quick and easy, yet gives the brass a beautiful aged patina. If you’d like, you can use a toothbrush to scrub the surface gently for a more aged look.įinally, buff the surface with a soft cloth to remove any excess salts and vinegar that might remain. Allow the solution to remain on the brass for several minutes, and then rinse off the salt and vinegar with warm water. Use a soft, clean brush to spread the vinegar and salt solution evenly. Next, mix one part white vinegar with two parts salt, and then brush the mixture onto the surface of the brass object. First, you need to clean off any oils and dirt from the brass surface. You can do this at home using salt and vinegar. The two other liquid tests (water and ammonia) did not have any change after 1 hr.To patina shiny brass, you will need to age the metal using a chemical process. It produced a nice dark brown patina that would work well for vintage pieces. She also saw a really nice change in bronze with chlorine bleach. To achieve iridescent colors, add ammonia to the LOS solution (the following pictures do not have ammonia added to the solution). Have a spare glass of water mixed with baking soda to dip your item in to stop further patination when you reach the color you like. LOS is a quickly acting patina that comes in the form of small rocks that you need to add to water, or as a gel. To slow the process of color change, use your LOS in cold water. It's fairly quick acting.)īecause this experiment started tracking results after an hour, the pictures don't show some of the colors that can be achieved with Liver of Sulfur. (For those of you not familiar with jewelry design, Liver of Sulfur is a patina-creating product that is made of mixture of potassium sulfides. Not surprisingly, she got quite a bit of color change from the Liver of Sulfur after one hour. The Liver of Sulfur is extremely bad smelling (think very strong rotten eggs) and you will not want to have that smell on your hands come dinner ust me. Tweezers or tongs are also a great tool to keep your fingers out of chemicals. I suggest using some sort of disposable gloves, an apron to protect your clothing, and safety glasses. When attempting these tests at home, please be sure to utilize proper safety equipment and only work in a well ventilated area. I have to say, I'm a little surprised with a few of the results and am excited to write up the entire project for you all to read.īut before I go any further, I have to make a disclaimer: To begin our project, we had to brave the snow and stood out most of the morning (in 15 degree weather) to take some photos and get the project underway. It was an excellent learning experience and a fun opportunity for my daughter to get to try out what mom does on a daily basis. I had a blast doing this project with my daughter. I personally love putting a patina on my jewelry not only because it adds color, but it also brings out textures and design. But no matter what you call it.the same process is occuring. Of course, I don't usually refer to the process as corrosion, instead I call it "patina".sounds better that way. Seeing as I frequently "corrode" a lot of my work, I figured that this might be an excellent tutorial to share. When my daughter participated in her 5th grade science fair, she decided to study the corrosion effects of different gases and liquids on metal. This is more of an informative article than it is a tutorial, but I thought it might be of interst to my fellow jewelry artists. The mod works with the base game, but some options rely on specific packs: you can't send Sims for take-out ice cream if you don't own the Cool Kitchen Stuff pack, for example. Sims will also randomly explore if you don't intervene, which is neat. Their skills and motives will change based on the activity you choose, and you can tell your Sim to "Explore With" another character if you want to improve relations. You can send them shopping (they'll come back with new clothes), to dance classes, to local attractions, to gambling spots, to take on some part-time work, and more. Once your Sims have visited the DMV for a license or bus pass, you can send them exploring just by clicking on them, which brings up a radial wheel of options. This mod from KawaiiStacie adds a bunch of rabbit hole actions-activities your Sims can do on their own without you following-that activate buffs or improve your Sims' relationships with those closest to them. Here’s a sampler of the best Sims 4 mods, from small tweaks to complete feature overhauls. We wouldn't leave you to track down the best mods all on your own, though. Latest official additions and updates from EA might be incompatible with older mod releases, so be sure to do some double-checking before you throw everything together. It can take some work to figure out which mods will play nicely together and which will make your game come down with a digital cold. Elsewhere, you'll find that some of the bigger Sims 4 modders-including LittleMsSam and KawaiiStacie-maintain their own dedicated websites for their catalogue of modded additions. A more recent option to try is Sims 4's official modding support through CurseForge, available at the Official Mod Hub for Sims 4. Whether your mod of choice is just a small tweak or a total rework, you'll find it there. It's an engaging and rewarding system, which is complemented by smaller features and activities such as school projects and private journals. Parenting becomes a big deal here, as the way a Sim raises and disciplines their kids – in areas such as manners, responsibility, and empathy – affects their behaviour and personality growing up, helping to form who they are when they turn into adults. Whether you prefer this pack or occult-based content like Vampires or Werewolves will depend on your personal taste, but Parenthood is a must-have for fans who lean towards realism and especially family gameplay and raising children. But the best Game Packs offer superb value and can enhance your game in significant ways.ġ2 Game Packs have been released at the time of writing.Įssential for family players. If there's one single expansion to get out of the lot, it's this one. On top of that, the gardening career is a nice bonus and offers Sims the option to work from home as they look after plants all year around. Hot and cold weather outfits are crucial for Sims to cope with heatwaves and sub-zero temperatures, while families and friends can gather to celebrate annual holidays together. The calendar feature is a game-changer for The Sims 4, as the addition of the four seasons (with weather, temperatures, and seasonal events) brings a greater sense of time progression and realism to the experience. Seasons dramatically enhances the core of the game, and we can't imagine playing without it. While all of the other packs are somewhat dependent on whether you're on board with the concept and how it complements your playstyle, this is the only expansion that we consider a must-have for all players. Mitchell, a rookie, had played in only two previous games for the Ravens - without carrying the ball a single time. The Ravens entered the game with a league-high 31 sacks and added to that total with four before halftime. Lyrics © WARP MUSIC LIMITED, Warner Chappell Music, Inc.Chip Away is a Jane’s Addiction song written in 1986. Yearning for someone to have a hold on one's world, to help take control.Ī world we both take through no contact lens (ah oh ooh, ooh, ooh)Ĭreating a bond to navigate the world without needing technology to feel connected. I am only felt and seen by you (ah oh ooh, ooh, ooh)įeeling like only one person can understand and empathize with the bottled-up emotions.Ī world I'm in to take within your hands (ah oh ooh, ooh, ooh) I am only turning out to you (ah oh ooh, ooh, ooh)īeing vulnerable and turning oneself out to another person for help. Recalling a time when discovering new music felt like hearing a new wall of sound.Įverything locks, everything locks to my graveįeeling trapped as if everything is locking up and lead to death.Įverything locks, everything locks, everything locks to my grave and my broken limbsįeeling hopeless as if everything is locking up, including one's broken body.Įverything locks, everything locks to my grave and the life I liveįeeling stuck and hopeless as if everything is locking up, including one's life. Remember when we both first heard the wall of sound, the wall of sound? Recalling a time when everything in the world seemed in harmony. Remember when we both first felt the world is sound, the world is sound? Reflecting on the times when people believed that the world was round.Įverything spins, everything spins on my headįeeling overwhelmed as if everything is spinning around in the mind.Įverything spins, everything spins, everything spins on my head on my compact discįeeling like everything is spinning and being recorded in one's head as if on a compact disc.Įverything spins, everything spins from my head 'til my motion sicknessįeeling like everything is spinning from the mind to the point of causing motion sickness. Remember when people thought the world was round, the world was round? The last two lines of the verse state that they are "A world I'm in to take within your hands" and that it is "A world we both take through no contact lens" which suggests that there is an intimate connection that is not physically, but emotionally based. They are "only felt and seen by you", meaning that they feel understood and recognized by that person. In the third and final verse, the singer speaks directly to the listener, stating that they "are only turning out to you", which could mean that they are only exposing their true feelings to this person. However, as the verse goes on, it becomes clear that the connection has failed, and everything "locks to my grave and my broken limbs." This is likely a metaphorical expression for feeling trapped and imprisoned by something (possibly a traumatic experience). The second verse is a little more abstract, referring to when the singer and another person both "felt the world is sound" and "heard the wall of sound." This perhaps refers to a moment when the two people were so connected that they felt they were experiencing the same thing or in the same world. The repetition of this line emphasizes the idea of confusion, an inability to find a solid ground. The song builds on this theme of loss of control and spins with the lines, "Remember when people thought the world was round, the world was round?" This somewhat alludes to the idea that the singer is feeling disconnected from reality, and perhaps that reality is completely subjective. The chorus of the song, "Everything spins, everything spins on my head," refers to the sensation of dizziness that many people feel when they are intoxicated, confused or dizzy from spinning around too much. The lyrics of Hot Chip's "Motion Sickness" are evocative and quite cryptic. These are appendages that are used for movement, balance, and steering in the water. What is Fish Fins?įins are thin, broad fold of integument internally supported by fin rays which may be bony, cartilaginous, feverous or horny.įish fins are incredible appendages that allow the aquatic creature to propel themselves, maneuver through water and navigate their environment. This article will explore the types, features, and functions of fish fins to better understand how they benefit fish. There are several different types of fin that serve various roles and functions – each with their own unique features. There are several types of fins, including pectoral fins (located on the sides of the body), pelvic fins (located on the lower part of the body), anal fins (located on the underside of the body), and caudal fins (located on the tail). In this case, the patient recovered without any postoperative complications.Fish fins are modified limbs that are used for locomotion, steering, and balance. Laparoscopy was successfully used to identify the fish bone and extract it. CT and endoscopic ultrasonography may be helpful for revealing the nature of foreign bodies, the location of migrated foreign bodies, and the relationship with surrounding tissues therefore, imaging examinations can provide key information for delayed diagnosis of unexplained abdominal pain caused by foreign bodies. In our case, because of the inflammatory response and the adhesion of the surrounding tissue, perforation occurred in the stomach, where the thicker gut wall and the proximity of the omentum may have sealed the perforation consequently, the patient did not present the classic symptoms of digestive tract perforation, and immediate correct preoperative diagnosis was very difficult. Laboratory analyses are nonspecific, and leukocytosis or increased blood amylase levels are observed. However, to date, only rare cases of fish bone migration to the pancreas have been described in the literature, and this injury may present as a pancreatic mass or suppurative infection of the pancreas. These bones may be responsible for various complications, such as abscess, abdominal cavity infection, mediastinitis, and empyema. Numerous reports of ingested fish bones penetrating the digestive tract and migrating to various parts of the chest, liver, or abdominal cavity can be found in the literature. If the injury is not observed, a definite preoperative diagnosis is uncertain, and clinical intervention may be delayed. Because patients usually cannot recall any recent history of foreign body ingestion and because clinical symptoms are nonspecific, gastrointestinal perforation may present as only odynophagia or abdominal pain. Perforation of the digestive tract by an ingested fish bone is extremely rare (< 1%) when it does occur, the terminal ileum is the most common site of perforation, followed by the duodenal C-loop. If impaction does not occur in the upper gastrointestinal tract, the majority of foreign bodies pass asymp-tomatically within a week. Nearly two-thirds of foreign bodies are fish bones, and 75% of ingested foreign bodies become impacted in the oral cavity and laryngopharynx. Unintentional, unconscious ingestion of foreign bodies in adults is usually dietary. So, if I have the ability to do that, then why not? I’m just happy that people connected to it, because I feel like it’s something that I was so ashamed of and I was told to not talk about, that now, because I have the ability to talk about it all the time and there’s no consequences-like my family will still love me, and I won’t be fired-I’m very privileged in that way. I was bi when I started doing stuff on the internet, and so of course, if we were going to talk about our lives, I would have to talk about that. With topics ranging from metal health, to LGBTQ identity, to hating your job, Dunn and Raskin manage to craft a novel that perfectly combines the candidness of growing up with the humor of two extremely online gals. The sequel, entitled “Please Send Help,” was released this summer. The book focused on two best friends, Gen and Ava, as they made their way through their collegiate years. The pair began working on their own projects outside of their partnership, but released their first joint novel “I Hate Everyone But You” in 2017. The pair, who are not only business partners but close friends, would end up leaving the major media company to launch and work full-time on their YouTube channel “Just Between Us.” The channel eventually morphed into a podcast of the same name that saw the two friends hashing out everything from their latest bad decisions to mental health.
